Gannett Fleming is looking for an experienced Environmental Manager to join our established and growing Environmental Team in Ottawa. This position will integrate into a team of environmental scientists, planners, and project managers to deliver a wide range of projects within various sectors, including transportation infrastructure (road/bridge), transit expansion, water/wastewater, etc.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and manage all environmental components, studies, deliverables and general requirements associated with the execution of infrastructure design and construction projects.
  • Execute and oversee all environmental contractual requirements on construction projects in accordance with project agreements and schedules.
  • Develop comprehensive Environmental Management Plans to detail project specific mitigation and monitoring strategies that will be followed during construction.
  • Develop and implement environmental specifications as part of procurement packages.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring and follow up program in accordance with applicable law and permits, licenses and approvals.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships as part of liaising with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Ensure effective communication with the project team on environmental matters; prepare and submit regular environmental reports, as required.
  • Provide recommendations for implementation of corrective actions, where applicable.
  • Coordinate and execute site investigations and audits for environmental compliance, including but not limited to erosion and sediment control measures, spill preparedness, and water management and discharge.
  • Manage the environmental SME/disciplines (including subconsultants) and execute QA/QC of project deliverables.
  • Identify and monitor environmental training requirements.
  • Be familiar with and have working knowledge of environmental permitting and approvals processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Environmental Engineering or Science, Environmental Management, Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (preferably in a consulting role).
  • Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary environmental teams.
  • Experience analyzing project designs, identifying potential environmental impacts and establishing appropriate mitigation/monitoring plans.
  • An understanding of transportation, transit and municipal infrastructure projects gained through practical experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, permits and approvals applicable to construction in Ontario, as well as regulatory requirements / industry best practices related to noise, cultural heritage, archaeology, natural heritage, species at risk, air quality, land use, species at risk, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret design and construction drawings.
  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to successfully collaborate with other technical team members to deliver projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle and manage competing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading or contributing to Environmental Assessment projects including Municipal Class EAs, MTO Class EAs, and/or TRPAPs (O. Reg. 231/08) is considered an asset.
  • Experience contributing to proposals (workplans and budgets) is considered an asset.
