Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking an entry-level Dispatch Operator to join the Rochester, NY team at the Traffic Management Center. 

 

As an Dispatch Operator, you will use your basic familiarity with Rochester, NY’s major roadways, with the support of supervisor personnel, to manage questions, concerns, and complaints from public and partner agency personnel regarding the area’s highways and traffic related infrastructure. You will utilize traffic management surveillance via CCTV and software to coordinate the response to traffic events. You will also activate traffic message boards to inform the public of hazards. You will work in an office environment with extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions for the safety of the traveling public, emergency responders and other partner agency personnel
  • Monitor in field traffic management devices and computer notification software
  • Notify the public, and partner agency personnel of minor and major impacts to roadway infrastructure, and travel routes.
  • Enter incident information into computer-based software
  • Become familiar with area roadways and understand the purpose and location of in field devices.
  • Detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a high paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient in basic computer usage and Microsoft Office software
