What You’ll Be Challenged To

As a BIM Specialist in the roadway/highway design sector, you will play a critical role in integrating digital design technologies with infrastructure development. You will support the civil engineering team by developing and managing Building Information Models (BIM) to enhance planning, design, and delivery processes for transportation projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with engineers and designers to create 3D models and digital workflows for roadway and highway infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting project delivery by ensuring BIM standards are implemented, maintained, and updated throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Developing and managing federated models, digital terrain models, and coordinated geometry for use in construction documentation.
  • Conducting quality control on model accuracy, data integrity, and adherence to organizational and industry standards.
  • Participating in project meetings to support coordination, clash detection, and visualization needs.
  • Facilitating the use of BIM for constructability reviews, quantity takeoffs, and 4D simulations.
  • Training project teams and stakeholders on BIM tools, workflows, and best practices.

What You Will Bring

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in civil infrastructure modeling using BIM software.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, InfraWorks, Navisworks, and other BIM-related tools.
  • Understanding of civil design processes related to highways, including alignment, profiles, cross-sections, grading, and drainage.
  • Experience in model-based delivery (MBD) for DOT or public sector transportation projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans and translate them into coordinated 3D models.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills with a proactive problem-solving attitude.

What We Prefer You To Bring

  • Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer or MicroStation in roadway/highway design projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM standards such as ISO 19650 and familiarity with CDE platforms (e.g., BIM 360, ProjectWise).
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools like Dynamo, Civil 3D APIs, or Python to improve modeling workflows.
  • Exposure to 4D/5D BIM, GIS integration, and asset management workflows in infrastructure projects.
  • Certification in Autodesk or Bentley software or BIM-related programs.
