GFT is seeking an experienced Civil / Mechanical Inspector to join our Construction Services team in New York, NY. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity to serve on wastewater projects, focuses on replacing outdated structures and mechanical systems with modern, energy-efficient technologies.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

 

As a Civil / Mechanical Inspector you will be part of a major infrastructure project upgrading a key wastewater treatment facility in Manhattan. This initiative focuses on replacing outdated structures and mechanical systems with modern, energy-efficient technologies. The project includes the rehabilitation of the plant’s primary settling tanks and associated electrical and mechanical systems. We are seeking a skilled civil/mechanical inspector to ensure the quality and compliance of these critical infrastructure installations, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.

 

In the capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Perform on-site compliance inspections to monitor quality and ensure work is performed according to contract plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Inspect contractor workmanship and progress, in the reconstruction of primary settling tanks and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Perform final inspections, prepare punch lists, and verify completion of all outstanding items.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records: daily reports, contractor workforce logs, equipment and material documentation, inspection photos, and as-built drawings.
  • Participate in project meetings, including preconstruction and progress reviews.
  • Document quality control observations in daily inspection reports.
  • Perform field checks of red-line as-built plans for accuracy and completeness.

What you will bring to our firm:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection, specifically in wastewater treatment plant and tank rehabilitation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and civil components within wastewater facilities.
  • Experience working directly with contractors on active job sites.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation practices and QA/QC procedures.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Proficient in computer systems used for project documentation and inspector daily reporting.
  • Effective communicator, both verbal and written, across a range of project stakeholders.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be able to safely navigate active construction sites, climb ladders, and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Some night or weekend work may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $124,000 - $145,600 per year. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
