GFT is seeking a Transportation Systems Lead  to join our Transportation Group in Toronto, ON This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

 

GFT Canada is seeking a forward-thinking ITS Lead to guide the development and delivery of innovative transportation solutions spanning Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), transit operations, and traffic engineering.

 

This is a strategic leadership role with a strong mandate to build and grow a new ITS practice from the ground up, including business development, client engagement, and team formation.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver integrated, technology-enabled transportation solutions that support transit and traffic engineering programs across Canada.

What You Will Be Challenged to Do

  • Lead business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and cultivating client relationships.
  • Provide technical leadership on multidisciplinary projects involving ITS, BRT, and transit infrastructure.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of ITS strategies and systems, such as Transit Signal Priority (TSP), real-time data platforms, and smart corridor technologies.
  • Collaborate with transit and traffic engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of ITS components into broader project scopes.
  • Actively collaborate with the broader North American ITS and tolling practices to leverage cross-border expertise, drive innovation, and coordinate work-share.
  • Engage with municipal and provincial clients to define requirements and deliver scalable, forward-looking solutions.
  • Grow and mentor a high-performing technical team, fostering knowledge sharing and innovation across the transportation group.

 

What you will bring to our firm: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Systems Engineering; Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure.
  • 10+ years of experience in ITS planning, design, and deployment, with exposure to transit and traffic operations.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Experience working with agencies such as TTC, Metrolinx, MTO, and municipal transportation departments.
  • Knowledge of BRT corridor planning, traffic signal systems, and transit operations.
  • Experience with public-private partnerships (P3s) or design-build projects an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering ITS components within complex infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Canadian ITS standards and municipal guidelines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Compensation:
Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
