As GFT continues to grow and expand, we are seeking an emerging Entry Level Bridge Engineer to support our Transportation group in our Atlanta, GA office. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum 3 days of onsite office attendance.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Hydraulic Bridge Engineer, you will develop 1D and 2D hydraulic models and conduct hydraulic studies to support bridge design projects. You’ll also contribute to multidisciplinary engineering efforts and receive hands-on training in industry-standard modeling tools such as HEC-RAS and SMS (SRH2D). This is a growth-oriented position that allows for cross-training in final bridge design based on project needs and personal interest.


In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and apply hydraulic models to determine bridge lengths, profiles, and preliminary layouts.
  • Prepare hydraulic studies that meet state and federal design criteria.
  • Assist with site inspections of existing bridges to determine field conditions.
  • Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support plan preparation, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to schedule and budget.
  • Receive guidance from senior engineers and project managers on project goals, technical challenges, and quality standards.
  • Participate in internal and external training opportunities to support continued professional development.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines throughout project development.

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 0–3 years of experience in bridge or hydraulic design.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

 

What we prefer you bring:

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling and study preparation for GDOT bridge projects.
  • Engineer-in-training (EIT) certificate.
  • General knowledge of roadway drainage.
  • Familiarity with FEMA compliance requirements.
  • Bridge Final Design experience.
  • Interest in cross-training in bridge design and multi-disciplinary collaboration.

 

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $72,000-$85,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
