GFT is seeking an Entry-Level Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in either Kansas City, MO or Omaha, NE! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of these office locations.

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges, tunnels, overhead structures, retaining walls, and other structures along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates. In addition, duties may include construction inspection services.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Assist in analyzing data for structural design and bridge load rating tasks, including complex design and cost estimating assignments.

  • Research design options and code requirements; document findings for Senior Project Engineers.

  • Prepare administrative reports for permits, inspection findings, load ratings, and other client requirements.

  • Participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection, materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.

  • Serve as a member of the field crew for structural inspections; take photos, measurements, and produce sketches.

  • Clearly describe field observations through technical writing and illustrative sketches.

  • Operate lift equipment, climb ladders, install traffic control devices, and perform other tasks supporting inspection activities.

  • Receive direction from Project Managers or Senior Engineers regarding project goals and deliverables.

  • Keep supervisors informed of workload, schedule changes, and scope modifications.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and participation in industry organizations.

What You’ll Bring to Our Firm

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (structures emphasis) from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam.

  • 0–2 years of experience in structural bridge engineering.

  • Familiarity with AASHTO, AREMA, AISC, and ACI design codes.

  • Ability to read and interpret plans and shop drawings, and assess contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with structural design software such as STAAD, RISA, or SAP2000.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills; team-oriented with effective time management.

  • Open to collaboration and continuous learning; values input from peers and fosters shared growth.

What we prefer you bring

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience designing railroad structures using the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering.

  • NBIS Routine and/or Fracture Critical Bridge inspection experience.

  • NHI certifications Inspection of In-Service Bridges and Fracture Critical Bridges.

  • Experience with LRFD and LRFR design of highway bridges.

  • Familiarity with software tools such as:MicroStation, AutoCAD, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, Midas, LEAP Bridge, MDX, STAAD, RISA

  • Experience preparing structural engineering design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

 
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $90,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
