As GFT continues to grow and expand, we are seeking a Project Manager / Highway Engineer to support our Transportation group in our New York, NY or Long Island, NY offices. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our New York office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Project Manager / Highway Engineer, you will manage roadway projects for NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYSTA, and other New York City agencies. You’ll guide design strategies, oversee project delivery, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to bring safe and sustainable infrastructure to the community. In this role, you’ll lead planning, budgets, and schedules, review technical documents, and ensure quality results. You’ll also work directly with clients, support pursuit efforts, and mentor junior staff while growing your expertise in transportation project leadership.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Secure, plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of roadway projects ranging from small assignments to large-scale, multi-discipline efforts with technical complexity
  • Lead project teams through preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination
  • Provide client-facing leadership as Project Manager or Task Manager, ensuring delivery aligns with client expectations, agency standards, and GFT strategic initiatives
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, supporting business development and proposal efforts including writing, presentations, and pursuit strategy
  • Reinforce and expand the group’s market position and service offerings by aligning roadway practice growth with client and agency needs
  • Guide, mentor, and coordinate multi-disciplinary staff, fostering collaboration and accountability while advancing technical excellence

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • PE license in New York or ability to obtain through reciprocity within one year
  • 10+ years of highway and roadway design / project management experience with increasing responsibility
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships, with experience supporting proposals, pursuits, and presentations
  • Leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a track record of mentoring staff and fostering collaboration across disciplines
  • Proficient in MicroStation, and Microsoft Office
  • Design experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA,  NYCDOT, or other NYC area transportation agencies
  • Strong highway design skills and ability to mentor junior staff
  • Experience in staff supervision and project coordination
  • Experience preparing submittals and coordinating with permitting agencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including client presentation experience

 

What We Prefer You Bring:

  • Experience with OpenRoads
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Relationships with New York State or City transportation clients

 

  • Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $200,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
