GFT Canada Environment is currently seeking an enthusiastic Junior Ecologist to join our growing Natural Sciences Team! The successful hire will support our transportation infrastructure projects including, but not limited to, bridges and tunnels, roadways, transit and rail, ports and harbours. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in field surveys in support of baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, natural environment monitoring and related scopes of work.
  • Field data entry, management and analysis.
  • Assist with regulatory agency consultation.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and other deliverables, such as existing conditions reports, technical memos, and figures/tables.
  • Undertake comprehensive background information reviews and secondary source data collection.
  • Follow quality assurance/quality control procedures to ensure commitment to technical excellence.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a similar role (including co-op experience).
  • Keen interest and knowledge of the flora and fauna of Ontario.
  • Familiarity with vegetation community classification (e.g. ELC certification is considered an asset), fish and wildlife habitat assessment.
  • Experience with technical and scientific reporting.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.
  • Ability to work in both field and office environments.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, team oriented and ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat applications, and file sharing systems (e.g., Sharepoint).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR preferred.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.

Compensation:

 

The salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
