As GFT continues to grow and expand, we are seeking a motivated Entry Level Process Engineer to join our Marine–Industrial Group in our Baltimore, MD office. This position follows a hybrid work format, requiring a minimum of 3 days of onsite attendance per week.

 

At GFT, our Marine–Industrial team is committed to delivering efficient, innovative structural solutions that prioritize safety, functionality, and sustainability. Our marine projects include the design of vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads, retaining walls, piers, and wharves. On the industrial side, we work on tank foundations, pipe racks, conveyor support structures, and small industrial buildings and towers. We are looking for a team member who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a wide range of impactful projects.

 

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As an Entry-Level Process Engineer, you’ll support the design and optimization of process systems for industrial and manufacturing projects. You’ll assist in developing process flow and instrumentation diagrams, designing plant layouts, and selecting equipment such as pumps, vessels, and piping systems. Working alongside senior engineers, you’ll contribute to technical drawings, site evaluations, and project documentation throughout all stages of design and construction.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Support senior engineers in the design and analysis of process systems, plant layouts, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Assist in developing process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Participate in equipment selection and specification for pumps, tanks, vessels, and material handling systems.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings and design documents using AutoCAD or related software.
  • Assist in performing field data collection, site visits, and engineering evaluations during design and construction phases.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Support proposal preparation and project planning activities as assigned.
  • Learn and apply applicable national and local building codes and industry standards.

What you’ll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience in the design of chemical, refinery, or manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in industrial, process, piping, or related engineering field through applied coursework, internships, or past experiences.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or related software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, organized, with a strong drive to excel and learn.

 

What we prefer you bring:

  • Familiarity with Revit, Plant 3D, or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Exposure to pipe stress or flow analysis software (e.g., AutoPIPE, Pipe-Flo).
 
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $95,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
