GFT is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Drainage designer to join our Miami, FL office. In this role, you will be involved in the design and delivery of drainage solutions for a variety of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Florida, with a strong focus on supporting the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and other public-sector clients.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

 

  • Perform technical work in drainage design and permitting for highway projects, with little or no supervision. This includes, but is not limited to, the design of storm sewers, roadside swales/ditches, retention/detention ponds, exfiltration trenches, and pollution control structures.  
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and permitting documents. 
  • Assist in the preparation of Project Development & Environmental (PD&E) reports. This includes collecting drainage data, evaluating floodplain impacts, defining drainage areas, determining outfall locations, establishing permit criteria, defining the involved permit agencies, making recommendations on alternatives and computing cost estimates. 
  • Ensure design quality, technical accuracy, and compliance with applicable FDOT standards and guidelines. 

What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Transportation Engineering (or a related field). 
  • Licensed Engineer In Training (EIT) in the State of Florida  
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in drainage design for highway and roadway projects. 
  • Strong knowledge of FDOT Design ManualStandard PlansDrainage Manual, and Drainage Design Guide. 
 
What we prefer you bring: 
• Prior experience on FDOT District 6 (D6) 
 
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
