GFT is seeking a Senior Site Inspector to join our Transportation Team in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

What you'll be challenged to do:
Senior Inspector – Roads & Structures is a high impact role responsible for guiding, developing, and supervising field inspection staff across multiple road, bridge, and structural construction projects in the GTA. This senior professional will act as the technical authority for applicable standards and specifications—particularly OPSS, OPSD, MTO standards, CSA structural and concrete requirements, CAIS/CAITM, and municipal guidelines.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following:
1. Leadership & Staff Development (Primary Focus)
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of junior and intermediate inspectors working across several road and structure projects.
• Provide daily guidance, field coaching, and technical direction to ensure consistent inspection quality and adherence to standards.
• Review inspection reports, test documentation, and field findings generated by staff; provide constructive feedback and upskilling support.
• Conduct onboarding and skills development sessions on specifications, inspection methods, safety practices, and documentation expectations.
• Identify training gaps and proactively build capability plans for the inspection team.
• Foster a positive, accountable, and technically rigorous team culture.
2. Technical Expertise & Oversight
• Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for roadwork, structures, drainage, foundations, concrete testing, asphalt placement, earthworks, compaction, and related civil works.
• Provide high level interpretation of OPSS / OPSD / MTO / CSA standards and ensure all staff assessments align with these requirements.
• Support the Contract Administrator and Project Managers with complex field decisions, non conformance reviews, and technical issue resolution.
• Perform periodic field audits to validate staff performance, contractor compliance, and documentation accuracy.
3. Project Delivery & Multi Site Coordination
• Oversee inspection activities across multiple concurrent projects in the GTA, ensuring coverage, workload balance, and timely reporting.
• Collaborate with Contract Administrators, QA/QC teams, municipalities, and contractors to maintain project progress and quality standards.
• Provide strategic support in identifying risks, resourcing needs, and inspection priorities based on project schedules and constraints.
• Support key project meetings, including pre construction, progress updates, and deficiency walk throughs.
4. Documentation, Reporting & Compliance
• Ensure that all field staff maintain accurate, timely, and complete daily inspection reports (DIRs), quantity measurements, photos, and test results.
• Review and validate field measurements for Progress Payment Certificates, change orders, and contractor quantities.
• Ensure consistent use of digital platforms such as CAIS/CAITM, EDMS, ProjectWise, Procore, or equivalent.
• Uphold GFT Canada’s reporting standards across all projects.
5. Safety & Professional Conduct
• Ensure all inspection staff follow appropriate safety protocols and adhere to Book 7 traffic control requirements.
• Promote a culture of professionalism, safety, and integrity across the inspection team.
• Intervene proactively when quality, safety, or compliance risks are observed in the field.
What you will bring to our firm:
• Diploma or Degree in Engineering.
• 10+ years of civil construction inspection experience, including significant road and structural inspection expertise.
What we prefer you bring:
• Demonstrated history of leading, mentoring, and developing inspection staff.
• Experience working on municipal and road/bridge projects is essential.
• Strong understanding of OPSS, OPSD, MTO standards, CSA standards, asphalt testing, compaction, concrete inspection, and drainage works.
• Advanced interpretation of drawings, specifications, tender packages, and contract requirements.
• Skilled in field measurement, documentation, progress verification, and non conformance management.
• Proficient with inspection software and digital reporting tools (CAIS/CAITM, Procore, ProjectWise, SharePoint, etc.).
• Strong coaching and mentorship capabilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple active projects.
• High emotional intelligence, team building capacity, and sound judgment.
• Proven ability to elevate team performance and create consistency in technical outputs.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $98,000.00. Salary dependent upon experience and geographic location.
