We are seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer / Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex traffic engineering and transportation operations assignments for major infrastructure projects across Ontario and North America.
This role focuses on project delivery and technical leadership for large multidisciplinary programs such as rapid transit expansions, corridor reconstruction, grade separations, and major urban infrastructure upgrades. The successful candidate will lead traffic engineering workstreams including traffic management planning, microsimulation modelling, operational analysis, and safety studies while coordinating with design, transit, and environmental teams.
The role requires strong experience delivering technically complex assignments within large infrastructure programs and working closely with municipal and provincial agencies.
Over time, the position is expected to contribute to mentoring junior staff and supporting the growth of the traffic engineering practice.
This role will play a key part in delivering traffic engineering solutions for major infrastructure programs while helping grow a high-performing team focused on data-driven transportation analysis and operational excellence.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Project Delivery Leadership - Lead traffic engineering assignments for major infrastructure projects, including transit expansions, corridor reconstructions, grade separations, and other complex capital programs; manage scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables for traffic engineering workstreams; coordinate with roadway, transit, environmental, structural, and other multidisciplinary teams; and serve as the primary technical lead for traffic engineering deliverables on large programs.
Traffic Operations and Traffic Management Planning - Lead the development of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Temporary Traffic Management Plans (TTMPs) for complex construction staging, including assessment of lane closures, detours, staging alternatives, traffic control strategies, and operational impacts, and develop mitigation measures to maintain mobility and reduce disruption during major infrastructure works.
Traffic Analysis and Microsimulation - Lead operational analysis and corridor studies using traffic modelling and simulation tools, including development and oversight of microsimulation models to assess network operations, construction staging impacts, and multimodal interactions, and direct traffic forecasting, capacity analysis, and operational modelling in support of planning, design, and implementation.
Safety and Data Analytics - Lead traffic safety assessments, collision analysis, and Vision Zero related studies, and apply data-driven methods using traffic counts, travel times, collision records, mobility data, and other transportation datasets to identify issues, assess performance, and support operational and safety recommendations.
Planning and Environmental Assessments - Support Municipal Class Environmental Assessments (MCEA) and related planning studies by providing traffic engineering input to corridor studies, transportation master plans, preliminary design assignments, alternatives evaluation, technical analysis, and EA documentation.
Stakeholder Coordination - Coordinate with municipalities, transit agencies, and provincial authorities such as MTO and Metrolinx, participate in technical meetings with clients and project partners, and present findings, recommendations, and traffic engineering considerations to project teams and stakeholders.
Team Development - Mentor junior engineers and analysts in traffic modelling, data analytics, operational studies, and technical delivery, contribute to building the team’s technical capabilities, and progressively take on staffing and direct report responsibilities as the role grows.
Projects may include transit expansion programs; subway, light rail, and BRT projects; highway reconstruction and interchange improvements; rail grade separations; major urban corridor reconstruction; construction staging and traffic management for large infrastructure works; multimodal corridor studies and operational modelling; traffic safety studies; Vision Zero initiatives; complete streets and corridor transformation studies; transportation impact studies for major developments; and traffic engineering support for preliminary and detailed design on complex municipal and provincial infrastructure projects.
Strong experience in several of the following areas:
Traffic operations and corridor analysis
Construction staging and traffic management planning
Traffic microsimulation and modelling
Transportation data analytics and GIS
Traffic safety analysis and collision studies
Multimodal transportation analysis
Environmental assessment support
