GFT is seeking a Water Resources Engineer / Designer to join our Transportation Group in Towson, MD. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Towson, MD office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Water Resources Engineer / Designer, you’ll support stormwater and drainage design for transportation infrastructure projects that help communities stay connected and resilient. Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll contribute to solutions that reduce roadway flooding, improve drainage, manage stormwater, and protect transportation infrastructure. You’ll gain hands-on experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, drainage design, green infrastructure, bridge and culvert projects, and environmental permitting. This role provides the opportunity to build your technical skills while contributing to projects that balance safety, mobility, water quality, and environmental considerations.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Assist with the design of highway and roadway drainage systems and Green Infrastructure/stormwater management facilities.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and support watershed modeling.
  • Assist with hydraulic modeling for bridge and culvert replacement projects.
  • Support bridge scour analyses and the development of scour countermeasures.
  • Prepare construction plans, calculations, reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Assist with stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and drainage design.
  • Support the preparation of environmental permit applications and related documentation.
  • Coordinate with roadway, bridge, environmental, and other project disciplines.
  • Review project data, design criteria, and applicable agency standards to support engineering design.
  • Participate in project meetings and support project engineers with assigned design tasks.

 

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 1+ year of experience in stormwater, drainage, water resources, or transportation engineering.
  • Experience with or exposure to MicroStation and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Understanding of stormwater management, drainage, hydrology, and hydraulics principles.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, plans, or technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with transportation projects and applicable design standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Interest in developing technical expertise in stormwater and transportation engineering.

What we prefer you bring:

  • EIT
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Experience with Maryland transportation projects or agencies

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $65,000-$97,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
