GFT is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to join our Practice or CBG Team our of either Ontario, Alberta, or British Colombia.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

 

Under the supervision of a Senior Systems Safety Engineer or Systems Assurance Manager, the Safety Engineer supports the execution of system safety, safety assurance, and safety certification activities during the concept, design, construction, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance phases of commuter, light rail, metro, and heavy rail transit projects.

 

The Systems Safety Engineer develops and reviews safety analyses, hazard management documentation, safety cases, and assurance evidence while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The candidate should possess a solid understanding of rail system safety principles, risk management processes, and applicable industry standards, together with strong technical writing and communication skills. Familiarity with RAM concepts is expected.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Support development and maintenance of Hazard Logs.
  • Support System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (OSHA), Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), and related safety studies.
  • Assist in development and review of Safety Cases and Safety Assurance Reports.
  • Support verification and validation of safety requirements.
  • Review contractor safety deliverables and provide technical comments.
  • Support implementation of safety certification programs.
  • Assist in development of project safety requirements and safety plans.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk workshops, and hazard review meetings.
  • Support safety audits and assessments.
  • Coordinate with RAM, Systems Engineering, and Integration teams to ensure consistency of project assurance activities.
  • Assist proposal development and technical pursuits.
  • Follow company quality, safety, environmental, and project management procedures.

What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related STEM discipline.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada
What we prefer you bring: 
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50716, CSA R114, or MIL-STD-882.
  • Understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Understanding of rail systems and systems engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with RAM concepts and their relationship to safety performance.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project environments.

Compensation:


The salary range for this position is $97,000.00 - $144,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
