Principal Project Manager

 GFT is seeking a Principal Project Manager: Power to join our Team. This role follows a remote work model.  

This position creates a unique opportunity for an accomplished Power professional to influence project pursuits, expand client relationships, and drive successful project performance within a nationally recognized Power practice. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to investor-owned utility clients, private developers, and contractor clients, while managing complex multi-disciplinary, and multi-office Power engineering projects. This role also offers the opportunity to help grow GFT’s EPC capabilities, while partnering with practice leaders to expand our market presence.

What you’ll be challenged to do: 

As a Principal Project Manager, you will manage projects across our portfolio that involve substantial risk and complexity. You will work independently to drive operational excellence, resource coordination, profitable project execution, client satisfaction, and business growth.   

• Develop and maintain industry relationships to track opportunities and form project teaming relationships. 

• Manage projects successfully in a fast-moving EPC environment as we continue to grow our portfolio of EPC work. 

• Participate in the full lifecycle of projects from initial tracking through execution and project close-out. 

• Manage multi-disciplinary, and multi-office teams of engineers, project controls, project administrators and other project participants. 

• In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:  

• Maintain communication with internal and external customers and stakeholders, focusing on client’s governing bodies, executive managers, and project managers in accordance with the project execution plan. 

• Negotiate teaming relationships with joint venture partners and/or subconsultants, subcontractors, and vendors. 

• Negotiate contract scopes and fees with clients and subcontractors. 

• Review and approve adjustments and modifications to the WBS. 

• Prepare project status reports with input from other team members. Review and approve project costs through preparation of cost management reports, Earned Value Analysis (EVA), or other techniques 

• Lead, coordinate, and manage the quality assurance process in accordance with the GFT Quality Management System 

• Develop and assign budgets, financial forecasts, and resource plans to monitor profitability. Identify potential pitfalls and implement corrective actions. 

• Develop, coordinate, and efficiently manage the resources to complete the scopes of service involving multiple practices and offices. 

• Develop project schedules to meet contractual requirements, internal process requirements, and overall project objectives. 

What you will bring to our firm:  

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Project Management. 

• Minimum 20 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, engineering consulting, or related industries. 

• Experience supporting electric utility, power generation, renewable energy, transmission, distribution or substation projects. 

• Significant experience with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource management principles of projects in excess of $10M. 

• Professional Engineer (PE) license. 

• Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. 

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required. 

• Experience with project financial management and performance reporting. 

• Experience managing subcontractors. 

• Sound business acumen, financial awareness, strategic thinking, and a results-oriented approach. 

• Demonstrable experience using Deltek Vantagepoint, BST, or other financial management software, along with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Power BI, and PowerAutomate tools. 

• Must have strong oral and written communication skills. 

• Must be able to analyze and solve problems efficiently and effectively; work independently, prioritize tasks, interpret client requests, and guide others in the execution of tasks. 

What we prefer you bring:  

• Master’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline. 

• Experience with EPC delivery frameworks. 

• Ability to incorporate technology into engineering project delivery and management workstreams, including fluency with Copilot and AI tools. 

• Knowledge of engineering consulting industry practices and contracting methodologies. 

• Experience working across multiple disciplines and business lines. 

Compensation: 

The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $210,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
