GFT is seeking a Bridge Designer to join our Transportation Practice in Pittsburgh! This role follows a hybrid work model.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

Under close supervision, performs technical evaluations, inspections, and designs for a wide variety of assignments including structural design and analysis for highway/railway bridges and related structures, bridge inspection, load ratings, and quantities.  Performs assignments of limited scope which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related design engineering tasks.  Assignments may involve some interpretation of Design Manuals and Guidelines that will be evaluated by a senior level staff member.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepares details and plans in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of highway/railway bridges and related structures.
  • Assists with bridge inspection activities for routine structures under direction of Inspection Team Leader.
  • Assists with structural design activities for routine structures under direction of Design Team Leader.
  • Gathers, calculates and records information to be used for cost estimating.
  • Prepares basic specifications
  • Reviews shop drawings to evaluate compliance with contract documents.
  • Prepares first draft of technical reports or sections of larger reports.
  • Utilizes CADD to develop construction plans which may include 3D models.
  • Works as part of a project team within the bridge discipline.
  • Follows project delivery and quality control procedures and standards in compliance with client and company specific guidelines on time and within budget.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through attendance at educational workshops and participation in professional societies.

What you will bring to our firm: 
  • BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Fundamentals of Engineering has been taken and passed, preferred
  • 0 to 4 years of experience
  • Experience with CADD required
What we prefer you bring: 
  • Working knowledge of Design Software
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Possesses strong oral and written communications skills
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
