What You Will Do

Gannett Fleming is looking for a Senior (10+ years’ experience) or  Principal (15+ years’ years) Senior/Principal Geologist to lead our mining services business development efforts, currently focused on the industrial minerals resources sector mainly within the United States with the opportunity to grow into the precious metals and base metals sectors. The role will be responsible for identifying and pursuing business opportunities (business development), managing key client relationships, and leading and participating in the execution of assignments by a multidiscipline team that supports the sustainable growth of Gannett Fleming’s mining services business. Must be a Team Player with existing client relationships that can recognize, initiate, and advance opportunities leading to overall team growth.  The position will be based in Jacksonville FL.

The successful candidate will:

  • Direct technical programs and projects across multiple disciplines and sizes, with overall program/project responsibilities;
  • Ensure consistently accurate and timely client and management communications;
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical problems independently;
  • Serve as a key technical resource in other market sectors including water and commercial/industrial market sectors throughout Gannett Fleming;
  • Apply Gannett Fleming’s Project Management and Project Quality standards to manage all aspects of projects;
  • Develop and mentor junior technical staff in the skills and procedures needed to effectively deliver engineering, scientific, and consulting assignments;
  • Manage regional execution of projects originated by the team and maintain a consistently high quality of deliverable

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Geology required, MS or higher in Geology preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in the mining industry preferably with mineral processing experience 
  • 5+ years’ operational mining experience
  • Preferably experience as a consulting geologist or with a technical services role within a mining company
  • Must have strong relationships with mining companies and able to generate new work assignments to expand overall mining business
  • Extensive experience in the development, delivery, and operation of mining or mineral processing studies and projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in managing projects, preparing technical reports, making presentations, and preparing proposals
  • Experience in using mine planning, design, and scheduling software packages such as Vulcan, Surpac, Datamine Carlson, Gemcom, etc.
  • Registered or have the ability to register as a Professional Geologist 
  • An International Institute of Minerals Appraisers (IIMA) Certified Minerals Appraiser or the qualifications and willingness to become an IIMA Certified Minerals Appraiser
  • Previously worked on a team, been a study manager, area manager, geology manager, or lead geologist on several projects/studies or have gained equivalent experience working in an operational role
  • Established relationship networks within the mining sector of the US
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
