What You Will Do

As Gannett Fleming continues to grow.we have an opportunity for a Construction Inspection Coordinator to join our Construction Management Team!  This position will be based in Richmond, Va but may have some local travel. 

  • Supervise Construction Inspection personnel, including setting job priorities, scheduling, assigning and reviewing work to ensure the quality of major complex utility, stormwater management, highway, and building construction is consistent with City and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Administer contracts such as City-wide road/street re-paving and stormwater facility maintenance including setting specifications and scope of work; reviewing bids, determining the most responsive/responsible bid, conducting necessary negotiations, and awarding the contract; approving/disapproving change order requests; and enforcing the contract.
  • Resolve disputes arising from interpretations of contract specifications by providing an authoritative source of information, interpretation, and decision making and thus facilitating timely completion of work-in-progress.
  • Review engineering estimates for contract payments and approve performance bond amounts and releases to be sure the financial interests of the city are protected during work performance.
  • Sign certificate of completion after inspection, recording City approval of completed work.
  • Supervise maintenance of records for billing of services to control the effective utilization of assigned personnel and obtain proper reimbursement to the City for their services.
  • Initiate policies, procedures, and regulations necessary for efficient accomplishment of inspection operations and the effective interfacing with developers, contractors, consultants, and the general public.
  • Meet with City officials, consultant engineers, developers, contractors, state and federal agencies, and citizens regarding bureau activities to ensure proper coordination of all construction products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of transportation staff coordination experience.
  • Experience with transportation agencies such as VDOT or any other state transportation agency.
  •  Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to make staffing recommendations to accurately assign personnel to specific task orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the local/regional area, if required.
  • valid driver's license
