    Gannett Fleming’s Construction Services Business Line is actively seeking an experienced Roadway Construction Inspector to join our Chicago office. In this role, you will have the ability to use your transportation construction experience to support an increasingly diverse project and client portfolio.

     

    What You Will Do

    The successful candidate will be accountable for day to day inspection activities on roadway projects in the Greater Chicago area. Responsibilities will include, inspecting various aspects of work on the construction site and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with the contract, all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Observe and document nonconformance situations and change management events. Participate in the determination of appropriate resolution for each situation and event. Oversee contractor field activities and document the activities performed for the construction of highway and bridge projects for a variety of agencies, including Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois Tollway, CDOT, etc. Additional responsibilities:

    • Inspect and supervise roadway construction
    • Coordinate material testing, review contractor submittals, requests for information and coordinate with the contractor
    • Perform contract documentation duties, which may include field measurements of pay items as well as daily inspection reports
    • Coordinate activities with onsite inspectors and inform Resident Engineer of construction progress and problem area progress and problem areas
    • Provide technical supervision and assistance to Resident Engineer

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain a license within 12 months of hire is preferred
    • At least 5 years of construction inspection or resident engineering experience working with Illinois Infrastructure agencies (IDOT, Illinois Tollway etc.)
    • Certification in IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities (Doc Certificate)
    • ICORS Certification preferred, but not required
    • Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, Excel
    • Effective communicator with the ability to proactively address potential project/contractor issues
    • Must have valid drivers license??
